Part One: Local Priorities for Cornwall Council

Direct action on the issues our communities raise with us most often.

Housing Strategy

Cornwall's housing crisis demands action. Local people are being priced out while second homes and holiday lets hollow out communities. We champion restrictions on second-home conversions, genuinely affordable housing on public land, and local connection requirements that work.

Our Environment

Cornwall's coastline, moorland, rivers, and hedgerows are assets and responsibilities. Any green transition must come with practical, fully costed support — not just targets.

Cost of Living

Low wages and high costs — Cornwall's defining economic squeeze. We press for a fairer funding settlement, local procurement, and support for community energy schemes.

Jobs & Economy

Sustainable growth that benefits Cornish people. Stronger partnerships between the council, colleges, and employers so young people can build careers here.

Health & Social Care

Adequate funding for adult social care, improved mental health services, and rural access to healthcare. Cornwall's recruitment crisis needs targeted, funded solutions.

directions_bus Transport

Year-round, reliable public transport connecting rural communities. Fix the road maintenance backlog. Campaign for better rail services and fair pricing.

school Education & Skills

Stronger post-16 provision linked to local careers. Urgent improvement in SEND provision. Accessible, affordable childcare across the county.

account_balance Governance

Transparent decision-making. Stronger scrutiny committees with genuine power. Seriously consider the committee system over cabinet-style government.

domain Planning

Planning decisions that serve communities, not developers. Enforce conditions rigorously. The Local Plan must reflect Cornwall's needs, not Whitehall targets.

castle Culture & Heritage

Cornwall's identity is a living heritage, not a tourism brand. Support for the Cornish language, mining heritage, and the festivals that bind communities together.

A fair funding deal from central government. Transparent budgeting with proper scrutiny. Council tax increases justified and proportionate.

Part Two: Cornwall's Voice at Westminster

Cornwall's interests are not being served by national parties. A CING MP would go to Parliament with one job: to fight for Cornwall.

A Fair Deal for Cornwall

Cornwall consistently receives less per head in government funding than comparable areas. Funding formulas designed around urban centres systematically disadvantage rural, peripheral areas. A CING MP would make the case for fairness at every opportunity.

"We seek sustainable economic growth and improved job opportunities for Cornish people — backed by a funding formula that recognises rurality, deprivation, and distance."

Fishing, Farming & Food Security

Post-Brexit promises to fishing and farming communities have not been kept. Cornwall's primary industries need practical support, fairer trade deals, and less red tape. Food security is national security — domestic producers deserve better.

Pragmatic National Positions

  • diversity_3
Immigration The system is broken and unfair. We want pragmatic reform that enforces existing law — not performative and divisive outrage.
  • account_balance_wallet
Devolution Cornwall deserves the right to decide its own governance. A fundamental change that must go to the people in a referendum.
  • electric_bolt
Cost of Living Energy policy must work for rural homes. Fair wages, affordable housing, accessible services — the basics national parties keep failing to deliver.
  • local_hospital
Health Targeted incentives to attract health professionals to rural areas. Genuine parity between mental and physical health services.

Join the Movement.

Cornwall deserves representatives who put Cornwall first. Stand with us, stand as a candidate, or just hold us to what we've said here.
